There are plenty of ways to lead a young and vibrant life, regardless of your age. It doesn’t necessarily involve jumping out of perfectly good planes or keeping up with the fast-paced world. Sometimes just trying or learning something new can be enough.

· Learn a (Programming) Language Learn French and Chinese or Java and PHP. The world isn’t limited to just spoken or conversational language anymore. Music, math, and other systems have their own (but related) languages too, so feel free to think outside the box.

· Start a New Career Security and routine are good, but how much growing and expanding are you doing in your current job? Are you learning new skills? Take some time to reevaluate where you are and don’t make any rash decisions. But properly preparing for and then changing to a new career could invigorate your life.

· Exercise the Mind Sudoku, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, educational video games, and other games can help work those cranial muscles and keep you learning. These regular mind exercises can help you improve your critical thinking and help you attack any problem.

· Do Something Completely New You may already have hobbies, but try picking something completely new, something you’ve never done before. Maybe it’s something you’ve always wanted to do, but it doesn’t have to be. And don’t just focus on the actual doing (the painting, the biking, etc.); also focus on the history, the technology, or anything else surrounding the hobby.

· Read More Taking the time to study about a subject you love – or even one you don’t – will help you expand your mind and your skill set. Consider studying something that may help you start a new career or build a small business. Take the skills you learn from reading and apply them.

· Meet New People Make it a point to visit the neighbor you’ve lived next to for 20 years but don’t know anything about. Or go to a community social or a block party. There is quite literally a whole world of people out there with knowledge, opportunities, and experiences you too can benefit from.

· Read the News It can be depressing, but find a few news sources that don’t drive you crazy and stay informed. Perhaps don’t focus so much on the day-to-day news but on the underlying principles of government, political science, and society.

· Exercise and Eat Right Part of staying young and energetic is taking care of yourself physically. And even if you’re in relatively good shape, there’s no reason to not try something new – yoga, Pilates, hiking, etc.

There are plenty of other options – volunteer, organize and itemize your house, get a pet. But regardless of what you’re trying to do to stay young, keep trying new things and never give up.
