Sudoku Kindergarten
Who has a career/job that they absolutely love?
How does it feel to turn a passion into a career? Currently my name is Blank because I don’t know what I want to do in life. I want to wake up everyday doing something I love. I’m 23 so I still have time to “find myself” but it has been so frustrating. I am currently a kindergarten teacher. I want to get my Masters but in what? I like exploring the computer and Internet. I love playing Nancy Drew games and Sudoku. I like shows like Criminal Minds and Law and Order SVU but I could never work in the criminal justice field. I’m too scary! I don’t know what I want to do. I would love to hear from someone that absolutely love their job. How does it feel?
I do really enjoy my job in Software Quality/Software Testing, but it’s a career I stumbled into quite by accident. I too had no clue what I wanted to do and ended up taking a tech support job at a symbolic math company just so I wouldn’t have to move again (by going to the next city over where most jobs are). Tech support isn’t great, but they liked me and after my contract ended I moved to software testing.
I’ve been in the field for about 12 years now in various positions. It’s technical enough to keep me well challenged. I had originally started school with teaching in mind but then enjoyed the computer courses I took, so switched to that, but then they got very hard very fast (they assume if you took more than just the first couple that you have programmed for about 5 years already), so I was left sort of aimlessly wandering when I stumbled into testing.
You may like it too, as you’re often faced with a problem that seem rather ambiguous and you have to investigate how or why it’s happening.
I feel sorry for anyone so cynical they can’t believe that there’s others out there who enjoy let alone love their jobs and careers.
