Sudoku Generator Algorithm
How do Sudoku puzzle designers decide in advance what diffculty level they’ re aiming for?
Here’s the thing. There are now loads of people (and computer programs?) turning out Sudoku puzzles by the zillion. Once they’ve designed them they must be able to tell what difficulty level they are. So there must be some design rules that they work to. Obviously the quantity of numbers in the puzzle is one guide, but there must be more of these algorithms. Can anybody offer any insight into the underlying parameters they build into their Sudoku-generator so that they know in advance what level of difficulty will result?
