You’ll want to pack a bag large enough so that you can personalize your luggage anyway you want. We just want to ensure that you have the basics:
Essential Hospital Bag Checklist:
For the pregnant woman:
o Full-size Tote or luggage bag.
o Robe & Slippers
o 2-3 Comfy & Attractive Nightgowns, Nursing Nightgowns are useful here.
o Warm Socks, with no-slip bottom
o Massage oil
o Journal & Pen
o Lollipops
o Nipple cream for nursing
o Oral Hygiene: Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Floss, Mouthwash
o Body Wash & Washcloth or Bathing Sponge
o Disposable Facial Cloths
o Extra Large Maxi Pads
o Magazine/Books
o Music on an i-pod, book on tape
o Walkman
o Credit card, and cash for unexpected expenses/purchases
o List of questions for doctor, nurse, lactation consultant
For the Newborn:
o Baby Blanket – wash in baby detergent in advance
o Take-home Outfit – appropriate for weather – and wash in baby detergent in advance
o Baby hat
o Baby undershirt
o Car seat and base, correctly installed
For your Partner or Coach:
o Deck of cards
o Crossword puzzles, Sudoku, etc.
o Snacks
o Music, i-pod, or walkman
o Camera, make sure you can turn OFF the flash. This can be hard on baby’s eyes.
o Books
o Change of clothes
o Cash and change for vending machines, parking, etc.
